The original Honda Civic Type R’s, using an EK9 chassis, were introduced in Japan back in the year 1997. The initial model of the Type R shared many features with the Integra Type R, such as the extensive weight-reduction system. The first generation also featured a B16B engine along with other “racing like” components. The interior also featured several “racing like” features, such as a sporty set of seats by Recaro along with a steering wheel by Momo.
The first generation of the Civic Type R ended production in the year 2000. By this time, the initial version of the Honda Civic Type R had already achieved success as a quality mainstream sedan that was enjoyed by car enthusiasts in not only Japan, but the world abroad.
