An interesting article by an AP reporter spoke of the decline of sales of PCs in Japan. These are just a few days after a debate with some friends we found mulling over the same issue. My idea that the life of the PC is limited and the computer as we know it is on the way, was shot down in flames. I was especially not earn stripes as I could not arrive at anything like a reasonable alternative!
The report by Hiroko Tabuchi says that the PC shipments to Japan have fallen for five consecutive quarters and Japan is considered a key market in this industry. The trend is evident for all desktops and notebooks. Sales are also declining in America. The only growth is still being experienced in the developing world.
The question arises as a response is what is replacing the PC? That is not so easy to answer. Possibly should rather ask, what is the equipment that is used for that are currently served by other gadgets of technology?
The first item that comes to mind is a complement to the music. What the younger generation downloaded on your PC is being downloaded onto their phones or new iPod Touch for example, which is a combination of music and organizer of the Web surfer supplement.
Digital cameras are now able to be linked directly to the printers in this way through the computer. And I am sure that some cameras come with photo image manipulation software so that you can quickly modify crops and, when necessary. Some have video recorders on the editing functionality of the full installation. The iPhone and presumably other mobile phones allow upload photos directly to the account Flickr dear.
What about other forms of entertainment such as video, films and games? Because there are television series that are becoming bigger and better with the incredible image quality and connect game consoles in the same flat-panel TVs which in turn complement to any sound system.
And the Internet? Reportedly, more than 50 percent of the Japanese people send e-mail and browse the Internet from their mobile devices. So then what is left for the team. So far it seems that is re-office applications and possibly for the person who is strange in video editing and photo serious image manipulation that requires high computing power.
