The Audi R8 has a striking resemblance to the Lamborghini Gallardo. Why is this? Well, the answer is that Audi based the R8 off of the Lamborghini Gallardo. Since Audi owns the Lamborghini company, they used the the idea of the Gallardo, among other factors, to create a new model of sporty civilian transport.
Not only does the Audi R8 share many body characteristics with the Gallardo (the rear engine compartment, the general shape of the body, et cetera) but the R8 also shares some technical aspects with the Gallardo and other Lamborghini components (such as the various types of engines used to power the vehicle).
